Layla "Lala" Thomas
Lala Thomas is a multi-talented entertainer in Chicago, some of her talents range from dancing, acting, and modeling. Lala was born on March 20th, 1996, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. When Lala was younger, she always danced with her little sister Caierre "Chyna" and cousin Kyla "Kayy Sav." Lala quickly gained interest in acting when she started to grow older. She and her cousins made a YouTube Series called "Bad Kids Club," a play on the Oxygen series "Bad Girls Club." Lala and her cousins made up a dance group called "Dancers for life," where they performed at family events. Lala received a call to audition at a performing arts school and got accepted but found out she had to pay a large lump sum of money to attend the school, which Lala or her family couldn't afford.
Lala took her talents to high school after seeing the school dance team always performing at events. She showcased her skills in 2015 for her high school awards night with the Boys & Girls Club as she and the rest of the dance team members performed for the audience before accepting their awards. Lala quickly gained popularity for her dancing skills. A month later, the Boys & Girls Club dance team performed for the Annual Know Peace event hosted by the Boys & Girls Club, which surprised the audience. In 2015, the Bgc dance team performed at the Pep rally. At that time, the music they played had technical difficulties, and they completed their performance without music.
A few months later, Lala injured her right ankle, and doctors told her she couldn't dance for six weeks. She then made her departure from the dance team and acted with the American Theater company and Wells Ensemble Theater. Later that year, Lala appeared in two successful stage plays, performing six times at Wells High school and two times at American Theater Company. In April 2016, Lala danced alone and won 3rd place in her High school talent show. That was the last time Lala performed on the stage at Wells High School, two months before graduation.
After high school, Lala has stopped dancing and wrote a short film called "Life Problems," centering on six young adults with various life struggles. "Some characters try to hide their struggles while the others reach their breaking point," said Thomas. "I wrote it because the situations they are facing you see in reality including teen pregnancy, abortion, navigating life as an LGBTQ+ person, homelessness, drug, and alcohol use, raising kids as a single parent, bullying, suicide, and love." Thomas is currently awaiting financial support to produce this short film.
In time, Lala has focused on her brand "Talented Lala," which she created in September of 2016. Lala created and sold pinback buttons to raise funds for her Performing Arts Center. Another way Lala has expanded her brand is through her internet radio show that she started in November 2018- Talented Lala Radio. Lala has interviewed Talented local stars Noiramad, Furgunson, and Chyna The Dancer and has segments where she talks about trans issues, equality, the state of the world, and changes in music over the years as well as what happened in her life that week.
To date, Lala started to do lip sync battles at Cole's Bar in Logan Square for the company Loose Lips to get her name out there further Til this day Lala have won 1 Loose lips battle. She also walked in Chicago Fashion Week 2019. Lala has continued to help up and coming artists.
